Is Aldi Coming To New Mexico Or Albuquerque In 2022?
Even though the German grocery store chain fell a little behind on their schedule, they continue to work towards the goal of 2,500 stores.
- Arizona, one of the first Aldi-owned states, has finally received its first Aldi grocery stores. Now you may wonder: Aldi will be coming to New Mexico or Albuquerque? Below is the right answer!
There are plenty of locations Aldi could set up shop in New Mexico and Albuquerque, should they finally turn their sights toward The Land of Enchantment.
Albuquerque has the highest population in the state with just under half a Million residents living within the city and close to one million in its metropolitan region.
There are many neighborhoods that would be ideal for an Aldi shop, including Quigley Park and Nob Hill.
Santa Fe, which is also the capital state of New Mexico, can be found outside Albuquerque.
Santa Fe, New Mexico’s fourth-largest city, has a population around 85,000. However, it is also a hub of tourism for its historical landmarks.
Aldi closest to Albuquerque, located about 320 mi southwest, is in Gilbert, AZ.
Unfortunately, the Texas locations are grouped more easterly, away from the TX/NM border.
Albuquerque residents and new Mexicans may not have Aldi yet but they have many popular alternatives.
There are six locations of the Sprouts Farmers Market in Albuquerque, as well as three throughout New Mexico, two of which are in Santa Fe.
There are also two Whole Foods Markets within NM: one is in Albuquerque; one is Santa Fe.
And there are 23 Albertsons Markets in the state, with two in Santa Fe and 10 in the Albuquerque metro region.

While Aldi’s current building plan has passed over New Mexico and its city of Albuquerque, the company is clearly not done expanding the U.S.
The future will show, but I don’t think it is unreasonable to expect that New Mexico would finally have at least a couple of Aldi stores as the company moves on to its next phase.
Aldi plans to open 150 more U.S. shops in 2022. The expansion of the Gulf Coast will also help the discount grocery chain reach its 38th state. Aldi U.S. of Batavia, Illinois announced Tuesday it will open a Lafayette store on February 10, 2022. This is the first Louisiana location for the company.
While many chains, restaurants and stores have closed their doors due to the pandemic it hasn’t seemed that this has affected Aldi or its business model. (via Business Insider).
